In fact, from the Christian perspective we celebrate total dependence - dependence on God. I'm not independent in any shape, manner, or form. I once thought I was independent - free to do what I wanted - but I soon realized the folly of my thinking and desiring. I realized that I wasn't independent at all. IN fact I was driven by the approval of others (codependency), I was driven by a desire to escape (substance abuse), I was pushed by a need for significance (achievement).
Instead, I have come to understand that Jesus, being who he claimed to be, has purchased my freedom. What ever freedom I have is totally dependent on Him. I never, ever, ever, ever, want to be independent - of Jesus.
Because of Jesus I have LIBERTY. This we can celebrate and should promote. Freedom from penalties of sin, freedom from judgement, freedom from sufferings, freedom from anything this world can inflict - because through faith, I am in Him. Jesus is free, as revealed in his resurrection, and as long as I am in Him, I am free.
Liberty all the way.
