It’s time to grow.
Do you remember the STAPLES commercial from a few years back advertising “back to school”? In the commercial, parents were doing victory dances at the news of school starting again. Every year at this time of year, parents begin to run out of steam having the kids at home and kids begin to look forward to getting back to school and spending time with their friends and activities.
We begin to do victory dances here at church too. Along with starting back to school, families normally re-engage their spiritual practices including attending church more regularly, along with bible studies, and Sunday School classes. It really is a time of new beginning and for some of us, just getting started.
As disciples, we are all growing, growing in the same direction; to become more Christ-like, and that means we will all begin to take on similar looking spiritual disciplines. Some will engage in bible studies, some in small groups, some a class on financial stewardship, some a class on basic Christianity; but all disciples are learners.
But disciples don’t stop with knowing more. Discipleship is about being Christ-like, not just knowing Christ. We begin to take on spiritual practices or worship, serving, generosity, ministry; it will look different for each of us, but again, we, as disciples, are all moving toward Christ-likeness and that includes the same characteristics and behaviors for all of us.
We have included in this month’s newsletter a copy of a brochure we prepared for our charge. In it, we all can see clear “next steps” for growing our faith. I pray you spend some time considering how you too can kick-off your spiritual growth this fall as we all seek to live as disciples of Jesus.
Jump in this fall as we kick-off our spiritual growth together. If you have questions, please ask.
