This week, I challenged our churches to be willing to put ourselves in the "path of the impossible." But in fairness, for many this has not been a practice they are comfortable with. How do you do the impossible? How do you get the will, confidence, or faith to put yourself in the path of the impossible? Francis Chan, in the video we played (above) certainly inspires us to want to live a daring life...but how?
That's where I like what Alan Hirsch comes in. He acknowledges that risk is scary and even contrary to everything that we in the American middle class culture have worked for, for years - safety and security. Even still, he outlines the importance for taking risks in ministry as vital to the life of faith and for the church in THIS VIDEO.
But knowing that we need to take risks isn't miraculously going to make many of us much bolder than we are today. What I believe it will take is encouragement, regularity, intentionality, and a lot of prayer. That's why we began to meet with a group of people from church on Sunday nights. We study God's word, pray, then talk about our plans to begin taking risks for the glory of Jesus.
Do you feel like you want to get out of the boat of normal, routine christian life but you don't know how to take that first step? Then contact me and we will talk about how you can join us as we take the first step as a group of friends and disciples.
